Stephen M. Renna

Stephen M. Renna is the Principal of Federal Agency Finance Advisors, LLC a firm that advises companies on how to access the financing products offered by various Federal agencies such as the U.S. EXIM bank, the DOE Loan Program office and the DOD Office of Strategic Capital.
Steve has more than 35 years of executive experience in the public and private sectors both domestically and internationally. He is highly skilled in finance, taxation, investment structuring and capital formation.
Steve also is an expert in the functions of federal agencies and Congress. This experience and expertise enables Steve to craft solutions and find opportunities for clients at the intersection of business and government.
Prior to founding Federal Agency Finance Advisors, Steve was a Senior Managing Director in Ankura’s Global Strategic Advisory Group. There, he led Ankura’s federal agency and international development bank practice.
Previous to Ankura, Steve was presidentially appointed to be the Chief Banking Officer at the U.S. Export Import Bank. He oversaw the execution of the trade financing solutions EXIM offers to empower exporters of U.S. goods and services. EXIM’s portfolio is $50 billion and a pipeline of $40 billion.
Steve also was presidentially appointed to be the Head of The Advocacy Center at the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Advocacy Center provides U.S. government support to U.S. companies bidding on foreign government contracts. It provides this support by coordinating U.S. to foreign government support on behalf of the companies.
During Steve's tenure, the Advocacy Center facilitated U.S. companies winning 200 foreign government contracts with total project value more than $147 billion.
Steve served for five years as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Commercial Real Estate Finance Council - the trade association of the $4 trillion commercial real estate finance industry.
Before that, Steve was President of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers. NAREIM is the leading association of companies engaged in the real estate investment management business. Collectively owning over $3 trillion of assets.
Steve also was Senior Vice President and Counsel at The Real Estate Roundtable, a Washington, DC based national public policy organization representing the commercial and multifamily real estate industry.
Steve practiced law and specialized in real estate taxation, partnerships and public and privately placed investment syndications.
He received his Juris Doctor degree from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law in Washington, DC and a BA with honors from Fairfield University.
